Simshauser Runs Program, Course Record, Cowboys Finish First at Wyoming Invite

Cheyenne, Wyo. -

Cowboys junior All-American runner Levi Simshauser was dominant at Saturday's Wyoming Invite, winning the 8,000-meter race by nearly 25 seconds, setting a new program and course records with his time of 23:35.88.

Simshauser dominated the eight-team field and led UW to the team title.

The Cowboys had five runners in the top 12 and scored 28 points, well ahead of runner-up Colorado's 52 points. The Buffaloes had won the last three Wyoming Invites.

Simshauser has won all three races he's run this season.

He leads the NCAA in the 8,000 meters and the 10,000 meters. His 8,000-meter time ranks No. 1 in the NCAA this season and ranks No. 10 in the world this year.

As a team, the Cowboys are getting healthy after suffering numerous injuries early in the season.

Senior All-American runner Nico Young, who missed last season with a hip injury, finished second in the 8,000 meters on Saturday, crossing the line in 23:59.98.

Sophomore All-American runner John Bird finished fourth in 24:16.45.

Junior All-American runner Noah Affolder was eighth in 24:37.95, and redshirt freshman All-American runner Luke Wierzbicki was 12th in 24:44.08.
